Important meeting tonight

We learned at last night’s SNG CDC meeting that Augsburg College and Fairview have opted out on the installation of pedestrian lighting for the Riverside reconstruction project.  There is concern that this is not a good decision for the community.  If you can, please attend this important meeting tonight:

A public meeting to answer questions regarding the project and specifically the proposed lighting system for the 2011 construction extents has been set for April 13th at 7PM at the Seward Towers East Advantage Center 2910 E Franklin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55406.

Proposal to improve pedestrian safety on Franklin Avenue approved by Transit for Livable Communities

From Katya Pilling (Associate Director at Redesign, Inc.).

I am so pleased to get to share the news with you that our application for improvements to pedestrian safety on Franklin Avenue have been approved by Transit for Livable Communities (see attached).  Our proposals for the bike center and 24th street are also still up for consideration.

Riverside reconstruction project meeting Aug. 24

from Katya Pilling at Seward Redesign

Hi there – A quick update on the planning for Riverside Avenue.

INFORMATION:

We have posted the presentation documents from the community meeting July 12th at ADC on our facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Seward-Redesign/186749528657

The City’s web site:

http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/public-works/cip/riverside/

I have requested that the revised plans be posted prior to the meeting, but they are not available as of today.

I have also attached a poster of some recommended tools and techniques for bike treatments, shared by Transit for Livable Communities.

MEETINGS:

There is another round of public meetings coming very soon:

Tuesday, August 24th

Seward Towers East Advantage Center (2910 E Franklin Ave) at 6:30pm.

Augsburg College Oren Gateway Center in room 111 (2211 Riverside Avenue) at 10:00am.

PROCESS:

My understanding from Joe Bernard, at City CPED, is that these plans will be near final for comment.  They expect to go to the City Council in September and October.  There will be public hearings as part of the City Council process, but that these Aug 24th meetings are likely the last of the meetings out in the community and the last time for significant public impact/input to the process.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Please also help as you can to get the word out to your constituents, friends, and neighbors. Again, this is a very significant project in terms of the resources that will be invested and the long-term impact it will have on our communities, transportation in the metro, and the City as a whole.

Thank you,

Katya
